If you didn't update the bank account routing and bank number, the refund is using those same instructions. Most of the time, with bank name changes, the account, and routing numbers do not change. Occasionally they do with mergers, but during transition periods, most banks will accept deposits under both new and old numbers.
Should there be any difficulty with any direct deposit transaction for your refund, a check will be issued and mailed to the address on your tax return instead.
You can double-check the information that is listed on your return by looking at the PDF or printed copy of your Form 1040, Lines 21b, and 21c. You will find your form located in the Documents section of TurboTax in the menu on the left.
If your bank name change/merger happens to be the recent SunTrust or BB&T change to Truist, the account, and routing numbers have not yet been changed.
My bank used to be Fidelity Bank. I was wanting to change it to another account but I never saw the option to do that. Is there a way I can change it after its been filed?
Since you have already filed, and the bank information you provided is for a closed or invalid account, the IRS will mail you a refund check. Once your return has been accepted (or mailed), it's too late to change your bank account for direct deposit.
If the info you entered is someone else's account, don't worry – some banks won't deposit tax refunds into accounts where names don't match up. The best way for you to track your federal refund is to call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
If your recently-filed return is in pending status, wait until it's either accepted or rejected.
