Maybe NY paid leave and NY disability.  Text in box 14 is for informational items and do not ordinarily affect your tax liability.

I have the same question.  Both NYPSL-E and NYSDI-E show up in Box 14 on my W-2 but it isn't clear what category these map to in TurboTax.  Are these mandatory deductible state or local taxes?

NYPFL-E is NY paid family leave. Choose other mandatory deductible state tax.  NYSDI-E is state disability insurance.  Choose wages for SDI.   Don’t worry if the verbiage in your version of TurboTax is slightly different.

Feb. 13, 2020...just went thru a fiasco trying to solve the  NY PFL....THERE WAS A DROPDOWN ....only the first 2 choices are visible ...USE the DROPDOWN......good luck

"NYSDI-E" why do you say it's "wages for SDI" category and not "NY nonoccupational disability fund tax" ? thanks!

Box 14 is informational only and does not need to be entered, usually.

  • The NYPFL is used for medical deductions, if you are itemizing. In that case, enter the information.
  • The NY SDI is not taxable.

If you want to add the NYPFL, use the "Other Mandatory Deductible State or Local Tax" choice.

It is included in your wages.

It is also a deductible state tax paid.

You earned that amount and it is included in Box 1 of your W-2. It is subject to Federal Income tax and FICA.

You paid the amount through your employer and it is a tax. You can claim the amount as tax paid on your Schedule A if you itemize.

Bsch4477, the OP asked how to handle "NYPSL-E", but your reply mentions "NYPFL-E" which wasn't the question.  Are they the same, however?  I too have "NYPSL-E".   I presume this is "Paid Sick Leave", but I wonder what drop down to use it TurboTax for it since it's different from the two replies you gave for Paid Family Leave and State Disability? TIA!

It’s paid sick leave. Again, it is informational and does not affect your return.  See details here:

Great, thanks for verifying my guess.  But, TurboTax is asking me to indicate which specific drop down explanation I should be using for identification.
