I'm trying this with the 2023 software and it seems to be handling the income so it is taxed as self employment -- any advice?
If you want to contribute to an IRA, you need 'earned income' so you want your 1099-Misc treated as Self Employment income, in that case.
If you only want to report the miscellaneous taxable income, when entering your 1099-Misc in TurboTax, be sure to indicate that 'it did not involve work like main job' and 'didn't involve an intent to earn money'.
Here's more info on Reporting Income on a 1099-Misc.
