I had an overpayment on my 2020 return (which was mailed in) and indicated that I wanted the overpayment applied to my 2021 taxes. How do I show that on my 2021 return?

To enter taxes applied from previous year into TurboTax, follow these steps:

  1. Click Deductions and Credits
  2. Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid, click show more
  3. Click Start next to Income Taxes Paid
  4. Click Start next to 2020 refund applied to 2021 federal taxes
  5. Finish interview questions

Are you doing your 2021 return?  The Online versions are only for 2022 now.  Or are you using the Desktop installed program?

To enter last year's refund you applied to this year.

Federal (Personal for Home & Business)

Deductions and Credits

Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

Other Income Taxes - Click the Start or Revisit

Next page scroll down to 2020 Refund Applied to 2021

Click Start or Update by the tax you applied
