Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I had a tax issue and used the live help for advice. After researching the issue myself, I think the tax professional gave me bad advice. Can I just ignore them?

I'm not mad. My situation is uncommon so they probably just weren't up to speed but the advice they gave was way off. I'm wondering if when I file and the Turbo Tax pro looks over my filing, will it be the same person and then not agree?

It is not likely that you'll have the same person review your return as you spoke with previously if you opt to have a final live review.

The process for the live review is interactive, so you will have a chance to explain why you've taken the position that you have and the expert reviewing your return will have a chance to explain to you the reasons they do (or don't) agree with your position.

At the end of the day, you are preparing your return yourself and signing it as "self-prepared" and its up to you whether you follow the advice given by the expert or experts with whom you have consulted.

A number of areas of tax are subject to some different interpretations and can be presented in multiple ways on a tax return.  If your situation is one of these, your expert can assist you in understanding what you need to do to document the position you are taking on the return in the case of a later IRS inquiry.

Great answer.  Thank you very much.  I didn't realize the review was live.  Perfect.  I have the IRS document handy to show her that the way I'm approaching it is acceptable.
