I file taxes for my aunt who recently passed away (Feb 2018). Do i just file her 2017 taxes as per usual as i am also executor of her estate?

I'm sorry for your loss.  You can create a return in TurboTax for your aunt.  Prepare the return with your aunt as the taxpayer (as if she will doing the return herself).

During the interview you will see a screen Do Any of These Apply to [your aunt's name]?

1. Mark the box Passed away before filing this return.

2. Enter her date of death in the box provided and Click on “Continue.” 

3. As you continue through the interview TurboTax will ask you for additional information if needed.


If you missed that screen, you can enter the information in the Personal Info section:

Click on the My Info link (left-hand column on your screen).

Click on Edit next to your aunt's name.  

In Section 3, mark the box that “I'm preparing this return for [aunt's name], who has passed away.”

Suggest that you read IRS Pub 559 (Survivors, Executors, and Administrators) for a lot of good information about filing the final return and estate return and other requirements.
