First, do you (or did you) have High Deductible Health Plan coverage? This is the type of health insurance that would qualify you for an HSA.
Often, this situation happens when you answered Self or Family to the HDHP coverage, but did not go through the HSA interview because you don't have an HSA (so you never showed coverage in the current tax year which is why TurboTax thinks there was a break in coverage).
If you didn't have an HSA in the previous tax year and in the current tax year, then you can safely back up and answer "none" to that question.
Alternatively, if you were in HDHP coverage for all of the previous tax year or for none of the previous tax year or for all of the current tax year, you can still safely answer "none" to avoid the break message.
And if later in the federal review, you see an error message relating to form 8889 and you don't have an HSA, then do the following:
1. make a copy of your W-2(s) (if you don't have the paper copies)
2. delete your W-2(s) (use the garbage can icon next to the W-2(s) on the Income screen
*** Desktop***
3. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select the desired form. Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.
*** Online ***
3. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form
4. delete form(s) 1099-SA (if one), 8889-T, and 8889-S (if one)
5. go back and re-add your W-2(s), preferably adding them manually
Continue with your return.
