I entered the wrong $$ amount when it asked how much did I pay when I filed for extension. How can I correct this?

I entered the amount I still owe instead of what I've paid

To enter, change or delete a payment made with an extension request (Federal, State, Local) -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
On Income Taxes Paid, click on the start or update button

On the next screen select the type of extension payment made and click on the start or update button

Have you already filed the tax return with the wrong amount?

If you have already filed, and your e-file was accepted, wait until the IRS has finished processing your tax return. They might see the error and correct it without you having to do anything. If they do not correct it, you will have to file an amended return to make the correction.
