I believe it is a federal requirement (to reduce fraud) that you include some form of state ID, even if you don't have a state income tax return.
I’m talking about box 15 on the w-2 form it is empty and it said if there is nothing in the box then no need to put anything on the turbo tax box 15
(Unless there has been some strange recent software update that messed things up)
The solution for residents of any of the non-income taxing states.......is to leave all fields for boxes 15, 16 and 17 entirely blank in that W-2..
Thus, for you...not even a "TX" in the first half of box 15.
Same goes for other tax forms (usually 1099-R or any 1099-??? )where there might be a "TX" in the state withholding area...all those state boxes need to be entirely empty.

For a TX resident, the state boxes in a W-2 (in the software) should only have entries if wages were received by working outside of your state and that other state has an income tax.....like if you crossed the border into OK each day, or occasionally, to work there for W-2 income..
