I claimed 0 dependent on 2019 return. I claimed my parents in 18. I need to make sure the IRS uses my 19 return so my elderly parents qualifies for the stimulus check

My 2019 tax shows in process. I filed single no dependents. My 2018 tax return I  claim my elderly parents.IRS site According to info that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time on both parents. Who would I contact to use my 2019 return so my parents can qualify for the stimulus check?

there is no way to cause the IRS to use 2019 over 2018 HOWEVER, this should work itself out:

here is why:

  • The stimulus payments are really based on your 2020 tax return (income, dependents, etc).
  • The IRS is using either 2018 or 2019 – whatever is available  - to ESTIMATE that payment
  • When you file next year there will be a “settle up” section on the tax return.
  • If you are due more stimulus (and this would include where you simply never received it), you will receive it through the 2020 tax filing.
  • If you received too much, by law, you are not required to return it

if your parents aren't dependents of you in 2020, they should get the stimulus at that point when they file for 2020.  that is the way the CARES ACT was designed.
