The IRS has not yet approved the form for E-file. Once they approve it, TurboTax will be able to E-file it. If you want to wait for the E-file option, check the forms availability status.

Thanks for the information!
It's quite curious that this option isn't allowed for TurboTax Desktop, as explained here due to IRS restrictions for form 4868, and yet efiling of extensions is allowed for TurboTax Online via TurboTax Easy Extension.? (see https://turbotax.intuit.com/irs-tax-extensions/ … FYI, Normally available beginning mid-March. Can use for free, though do need to re-enter all of the estimated amounts)
C'est la vie?
I see a copy of my tax return with the heading saying that I have successfully filed my taxes. But a few lines down it also tells that I need to sign and mail the returns.
@Susan Eng Better check to see if you successfully e-filed. If you did not e-file then you still need to file the return--either by e-filing it or printing, signing and mailing it. TurboTax does not mail your return for you if you chose to file by mail.
Did you e-file? Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?
Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”
Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself. TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.
2019 can no longer be efiled.
The original/best answer from March 2020 was correct - i.e. The IRS has not yet approved the form for E-file. Once they approve it, TurboTax will be able to E-file it. If you want to wait for the E-file option, check the forms availability status. At this late date, we're not trying to file an extension for 2019. Thanks
