Yes, you can change your return back to the simpler version of TurboTax, but you will need review your information after your do that. If you do have a reason for the upgrade to Deluxe, it will happen again as you complete your return.
 
Common reasons for the upgrade are adding 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC, or adding deductions to your tax return. 
 
If you think your return is simple, follow these directions:
 

 

  1. Click on Tax Tools near the bottom of the left side menu.
  2. All the way at the bottom, select Switch to Free Edition.
  3. The next screen explains the program will keep most of your information, but you may need to re-enter some of it. 
  4. Once you confirm that is what you want to do, you will be taken back to the beginning of the return and you will need to review and possibly re-enter some of your information.
