I am a retired government employee (FRS). I pay monthly for health insurance. Is it deductible? I am not sure if my payment comes out pre or post taxes? Thank you.

Medical is deductible after you retire on both the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) or the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) retirement systems.

This is a Sch A itemized medical deduction.

While you are working it is not, as it reduces the pay on the W-2.

So, the money I pay each month $500+ is deductible? If so, I need to amend several income tax returns.  🙂  What about Medicare B?  My payment comes out of Social Security.

Medicare part B is automatically added to medical premiums by TurboTax.  Your total medical has to exceed 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income and you have to be able to Itemize on your taxes. It is worth looking at.  Do not file an amended return until you get the refund on the original return filed.
