Is there a way to set up the payment directly to the IRS in TurboTax. In TurboTax,
the New York State return provides a way to have the autopay of quarterly estimated tax payments.
Take a look at the following TurboTax help article for your options to make Federal estimated payments. If the payments cannot be set up through TurboTax and scheduled for the future, you should be able to schedule them through the IRS using electronic funds withdrawal.
How do I make estimated tax payments?
Pay Taxes by Electronic Funds Withdrawal
Hi Kitty,
I have been doing estimated tax payments for 2 years. (retirement forced me to! I used to avoid it when I had a small business that only had income in Q4 by paying at the end of the year for the upcoming year)
EASY PEZY!
I have an account on IRS dot gov,
I think you can do it without one also, there is a link within IRS to a payment site
I set up for payments in advance.
It is very easy,
You can have them email you when a payment goes through.
keep your confirmation numbers!
One more thing.
IRS has a history of your payments and for what year!
Paying on IRS website:
I find it much easier, straightforward and less paper piles than printing out the estimated vouchers etc.
(within Turbo Tax there is a place within the forms section to uncheck the ".... estimated tax payment vouchers")
I already go that route but you can set up New York State quarterly estimates to autopay within TurboTax. For the Federal, you have to go to their website and set it up yourself. It is not automatic.
Making direct payments to the IRS is the way to go as awesome contributor @Nan2C suggests. You can use TurboTax to estimate your payments.
If you just want to avoid the underpayment tax penalty, you can pay 100% of your 2021 tax minus any withholding and credits.
I imagine every state is different. Utah doesn't require estimated tax payments.
If New York wants their money quickly, hopefully they have an easy way for you to pay.
Good luck!
