Hi,
I had to amend my 2024 return for a second time. Most recently, it needed amended to correct form 8606. I opened my previous amendment file, chose the option to file a new amendment, and then I made the appropriate changes.
As I got to the end of the turbotax flow, it has asked me to reconfirm my savings account routing / account number, and choose a day for the IRS to deduct the amount owed (I chose today). Despite typing it in correctly a few times, "Smart Check" would flag it with an error saying "Account number cannot be used for electronic filing" or something like that. It mentioned hyphens or special characters, but I had double checked it.
Eventually, I hit continue, and then at the very end it told me:
1. Print forms
2. Send amendment to IRS by mail
I'm hoping to confirm whether Turbotax e-Filed the amendment or not given I had put in my banking information. If i check e-File status in the turbotax file, it says it was complete, but it's not clear on whether that was referring to the first amendment I had done previously OR the most recent one.
Thanks,

Your amended return was not e-filed. It has to be filed by mail. Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in. Use a mailing service that will track it so you will know the IRS received it, like certified mail, because you will have a long wait.
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

Thanks. I wonder when / why they couldn't e-File the amendment in this case, as I believe it did last time.
In any case, one follow-up. The change was simple enough, and I expect the IRS to accept the change, however given there is a dependency on filing my 2025 returns (i.e. there will be a basis carryover from 2024), does this mean I have to wait until 2024 is accepted before filing my 2025 return?
According to turbotax support, IRS has shut down e-Filing until the 26th of January. Will try again in a week to see if accurate.
Only certain paid tax pros using professional tax software can e-file past year amended returns. You cannot e-file an amended return that you prepared yourself using TurboTax. Your 1040X must be printed, signed and dated in ink, and then you need to mail it in. Use a mailing service like certified mail so you will know the IRS received it, since you will have a long wait for it to be processed.
Are you sure about this? I have previously e-Filed amended return using turbotax. Also ref: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/how-to-know-whether-turbotax-efiled-amendment/00/...
