How to I obtain the MA Sched LP form through Turbo Tax? I had lead paint removed and I want to file the credit

Schedule LP is not a supported form for TurboTax.  You will need to download Schedule LP and fill it out.

You will NOT be able to e-file the state return as the Schedule LP must be attached in order to claim the credit.

 

Schedule LP states: You must complete and enclose Schedule LP with your return. Failure to do so will result in this credit being disallowed on your tax return and an adjustment of your reported tax. Taxpayers must retain a copy of the Letter of Interim Control and/or Letter of Compliance.

 

However, you can use this workaround to claim the credit while still using TurboTax. 

 

 Follow these steps to claim the Lead Credit in MA using TurboTax:

  1. In the MA state return, proceed until you reach Massachusetts credits
  2. Select Non-Refundable Credits
  3. Select Yes when asked if you have any Non-Refundable Credits
  4. For the type of credit, leave the box as EMPTY
  5. Enter the period end date, certificate number, credit available to you, credit you are taking this year and the credit you are sharing.  If you are not sharing enter $0 for the credit you are sharing
  6. After you do this, if you have a tax liability, you will see your tax due drop by the amount available to you for the year.
  7. Continue through your return
  8. When done with your return, you will need to select PRINT for your state return.  You can still e-file your federal return. 
  9. On Schedule CMS, in the blank spot next to the numbers you entered for the credit, hand print LEAD PAINT CREDIT or DELEADING CREDIT  NOTE:  If you are using the desktop version, you can go to forms mode and then select Lead Based Paint from the drop down menu instead of hand writing on it.
  10. Download and manually fill out Schedule LP
  11. Print the completed Schedule LP- if you cannot save the form with your entries you may have to hand write on the form the information being requested.
  12.  Attach schedule LP to your return 
  13. Mail your return to the address listed on the  instructions that will print with the return.
