@Marshallnoel

According to the IRS, the normal processing times for injured spouse claims are:

  • If you file Form 8379 with a joint return electronically, the time needed to process it is about 11 weeks.
  • If you file Form 8379 with a joint return on paper, the time needed is about 14 weeks.
  • If you file Form 8379 by itself after a joint return has already been processed, the time needed is about 8 weeks.

In these days of COVID-19, those timeframes may not apply.

Wondering if anyone has received their refund and how long it took? I filed ours with a injured spouse because of a student loan my husband had. Apparently since they are not taking out for student loans now, I guess I did not need to file the injured spouse? Maybe I would have gotten our refund faster?

It depends.

Under normal circumstances, it takes up to 14 weeks to process.

971 is an IRS action code indicating that they will be evaluating additional information prior to completion of the refund. Look out for a request in the mail for verification. It could be income, deductions, etc. If you haven't already, I would recommend signing up for an ID.me account to access your account. You can look in your personal IRS account for any letters sent to you or requests for additional information.
