How do you fix "Your configuration has been modified (prn.ini.,startup) Please re-install

I am using the 2024 Turbotax Desktop version.   It worked for awhile and then would not allow updates.

 

I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times but keep getting this config message.

 

I updated the Miscrosft Visual C ++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64).  

 

Any ideas how to get this working?

Run a virus scan if you haven't done so recently. If no viruses are found, try each of these steps to see if they resolve this error.

  1. Close any programs that are running.
  2. Run Windows Update.
  3. Temporarily disconnect from the internet.
  4. Temporarily disable virus-protection and other security software.
  5. Install TurboTax again.
  6. You can also try installing in Selective Startup Mode.

Right-click the TurboTax icon and be sure you're running in Administrator mode.  Here's more info on Troubleshooting TurboTax Desktop Issues.

I have the same issue.  I have uninstalled it about 5 times and reinstalled it, always elevating it to "run as administrator".  TurboTax2024 worked fine last week, it's just suddenly stopped working.  I can open prior year software, but not 2024.  This solution does not work.

Still had this problem attempting to install last week; I finally got around it by right clicking on the Turbotax download file, selecting 'run as administrator', and then when the install process asks where to put turbotax choose a directory different from 'c:\Program Files'. I would guess pretty much anywhere else under c: should work.

 

The resulting install seems to work normally, but this is the first time the install location has mattered for Turbotax in 15 years of my using it. None of the workarounds I've found online for this issue actually made a difference for me, so I hope everyone can waste less time than I did fixing this problem.
