For many years, I have completed my TurboTax using a Windows 7 computer. I installed TurboTax Premier for tax year 2019 on my Windows 10 computer as recommended. Typically, TuboTax pulls the previous year's data file (NOT PDF). So I also installed TurboTax premier for 2018 onto the Windows 10 computer as well. And then I brought over the 2018 data file. Will the 2019 Premier Software be able to read and pull the data from 2018 to begin my 2019 taxes using the Windows 10 computer/install, and the 2018 Windows 7 data file? The Reason I Ask This Is This - when I opened the 2018 Program, and then tried to open the 2018 data file, I receive a error 305, and then it said something like your file has been downloaded. I never used the online TT. I have always used the CD install. For those of us that have in previous years used Windows 7, and now this year we have to use Windows 10, can we complete our 2019 taxes by bringing over to the Windows 10 computer, the TurboTax data file for 2018 from our Windows 7 computer? Will the Windows 10 program for 2019, see and import the Windows 7 2018 data as an import information from previous years? Turbo Tax did not make this situation easy. I tried TurboTax support, but they had no real idea. Anyone else face this issue yet? Thanks
Here's how to securely move your tax files from a Windows 7 to a Windows 10 computer while minimizing the chances of data corruption:
where do you find the tax data file , not the pdf copy? do you have to install the 2018 CD again?
I have provided a link below on how to move a tax data file from one computer to another computer. I hope this helps:
How to move a tax data file to another computer
you have to reinstall the 2018 software to be able to open the .tax2018 file and the 2019 software to open the .tax2019 file. these .taxxxxx files are in you turbotax folder under your documents folder
c:\users\"user name" do not use the quotes\my documents\turbotax
