The tax data file for tax year 2023, with a file extension of .tax2023, can only be opened by the TurboTax software for 2023.

yes you'll need a version of the desktop 2023 app. it can not be opened with other years' app.

If you used and paid for one of the TurboTax online editions for the 2023 tax return then you can contact TurboTax support to see if they will push a 2023 desktop installation file to your download account at no charge.
