How do I obtain Form 4852?

To get Form 4852, please see the TurboTax Help article How do I file a substitute W-2 using Form 4852? for guidance.

Returns that include Form 4852 can't be e-filed, but must be printed and mailed instead.

How do I obtain Form 4852?

I filled out substitute 1099-R to remove excesss ira contribution made in 2020 and removed in 2021.

Turbotax filled out forem 4852 but says DO NOT FILE.

Also the review shows two errors on form 4853 which I do not know how to fix.

1. one says 'information for line 7 should be entered on the form w-2 worksheet'. there is a quick zoom button to take me to this work sheet but the button doesn't do anything.

2. 'information for line 8 should be entered on the form 1099-R worksheet'. there is a quick zoom button to take me to this work sheet but the button doesn't do anything.

I have not fille out any W-2. Just 1099-R

Any help would be appreciated

How do I obtain Form 4852?

When you create a substitute 1099-r then you will not be able to e-file.

Please delete the substitute 1099-R and enter the created 1099-R as a regular 1099-R so you can e-file.

To create a 1099-R in your 2020 return please follow the steps below:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the Search box on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. Select "I'll type it in myself"
  5. Box 1 enter total distribution (contribution plus earning)
  6. Box 2 enter the earnings
  7. Box 7 enter P and J (for Roth IRA)
  8. On the "Which year on Form 1099-R" screen say that this is a 2021 1099-R.

You will get a 1099-R 2021 in 2022 with codes P and J (for Roth IRA). Since you are reporting it now then ignore the 1099-R when it comes unless there is Box 4 Federal Tax withholding and/or box 14 State withholding. Then you must enter the 2021 1099-R into the 2021 tax return since the withholding is reported in the year that the tax was withheld. The 2021 code P will not do anything in 2021 tax return but the withholding will be applied to 2021.
