You can obtain a "tax id number" (EIN) online at the link below.

Note that revocable living trusts generally do not need an EIN.

I am the grantor of my own Living/Revocable trust. The IRS has never questioned the use of my Social Security number for the Employer ID number, but, for some reason Turbo Tax software does not allow you to E-File if you use your social security number as the employer ID number. I wish Turbo Tax would fix this. I'm getting tired of filing by mail.
