An Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) is a 6-digit number issued by the IRS that acts as an additional layer of protection for your tax return filings.  If you have been assigned an IP PIN, you are required to provide it when filing your taxes.  A new IP PIN is issued each year, so be sure to look for it in your mail in December.
