I have the same question. The help box says to note it is "different from the Iowa Alternative Minimum Tax", but the link points me to the website for the Iowa Alternative Minimum Tax. I don't know what real impact this has on the bottom line, but I have no idea how to answer the question.
In 2019 (at least) Iowa had an "alternate tax calculation" (I don't know if this continued after 2019).
You have two choices: (1) look in your PDF output (I assume you saved it) for a worksheet called "Alternate Tax Calculation". If not, look on your IA 1040 just above line 39 and see if there is a smart worksheet called Alternate Tax Calculation.
If neither of those work, come back and tell us.
Thank you for your quick response! Line 39 just says "Tax from tables or alternate tax" so it isn't clear which was used. There are calculations for the Alternative Minimum Tax (which ends up with 0, so nothing entered on line 41), but nothing for Alternate Tax Computation. There is also nothing above Line 39, so I've assumed my answer is "no" whichever way I look at it. It's confusing that the Turbo Tax "Help" popup clearly states the Alternate Tax Computation is different than the Alternative Minimum Tax, but the link for more information takes us directly to the iowa.gov page describing the Alternative Minimum Tax. I suppose I should go look up the Iowa Tax Tables from 2020, to know for sure that my rate is from there. But it seems that Turbo Tax could be more helpful, especially since I filed using Turbo Tax the previous year.
