Arizona (AZ) gives you a 6-month extension to October 15 if you filed an approved federal extension or made an extension payment at AZTaxes.gov. Otherwise, print and mail Form 204 by April 15. If you owe them taxes, submit payment by April 15 to avoid penalties. You can either include a check with Form 204 or pay online at AZTaxes.gov.
In 2020, the state website has these instructions
Taxpayers who filed an extension with the Internal Revenue Service do not have to do so with the state, but they must check the Filing Under Extension box 82F on the Arizona tax returns when they file. Individuals making tax payments with their extension requests must use Form 204 to ensure proper credit to their accounts. They can also make extension payments electronically at www.AZTaxes.gov(link is external) using the “Make a Payment”(link is external)
This is written on the form 204:
• IMPORTANT: If you are filing under a federal extension but are making an Arizona extension payment by credit card
or electronic payment, do not mail Form 204 to us. We will apply your extension tax payment to your account.
Do we still need to mail it or pay on AZ Gov?
The instruction means that they can use the Federal e-filed extension, and if you make an Arizona payment on the website, you don't need to send in the Form 204.
