How do I enter Margin Fees?

From what I can tell, you report it on Schedule A, Itemized Deduction, using Form 4952, Investment Interest Expense Deduction.  Hope this helps and good luck!

Margin Interest is deductible as an Investment Interest Expense.

To input your Investment Interest Expense:

  1. Go to Federal Taxes
  2. Deductions & Credits
  3. Scroll to Retirement and Investments
  4. Select Investment Interest Expense
  5. Follow the interview.

Types of interest deductible as itemized deductions on Schedule A (Form 1040, Itemized Deductions) include:

  • Investment interest (limited to your net investment income) and
  • Qualified mortgage interest including points (if you're the buyer)
