If the income you received from any one individual or company was $600 or greater, you should receive a form 1099-Misc from that individual or company. The total of all the forms 1099-Misc that you receive should be entered on Schedule C of form 1040.

Even if you don't receive a form 1099-Misc for the income you received, you'll want to include all the income you know you received on schedule C of form 1040. Schedule C is also where you'll record all your expenses related to that childcare income.

Use Schedule C to report income or loss from a business you operated or a profession you practiced as a sole proprietor. An activity qualifies as a business if:

  • your primary purpose for engaging in the activity is for income or profit, and
  • you are involved in the activity with continuity and regularity.

I have also included a screenshot of where to begin in Turbo Tax.

Your babysitting income is considered self-employment income and should be reported as such. Here is data entry:

  1. Federal Taxes
  2. Wages and Income
  3. Business Items, Select Business Income and Expenses - follow the interview questions; you would report the income as if you own a business; you will be able to enter your income and expenses (if applicable). Your cash income is entered as General Income if you have no 1099-MISC form reporting your income.

Note: you will be asked to upgrade to a higher version of TurboTax.
