with online the only place the tax file exists is on Turbotax's servers which requires an internet connection. To avoid this you would have to save a PDF copy of your return on your computer.
even with the desktop version you need an internet connection to e-file and update the program. usually, there are some updates before the efiling season opens because the program is mostly based on the prior year with only some of the revisions for the current year included. Failure to update may void the Turbotax accuracy guarantee.
A connection to the internet is required and necessary to keep all software features, Federal and State agency forms up to date at all times. This will ensure that returns are completed and filed correctly and print all forms, schedules and worksheets.
You may also want to use the update preferences below. It is always good to keep your software up to date to avoid processing errors.
Thanks, but you missed the point. My question was to turn off the requirement for an internet connection and to update the software.
My taxes are done, mailed -- I never efile. But I just wanted to print out the forms for a record. When traveling, I did not have internet, so could not even start the program.
And a program "update" would be irrelevant -- my taxes are mailed to IRS.
The correct answer given by someone else was that I can turn off the updates by clicking on Online, and selecting do not update or require internet.
In summary, my tax file is on my local disk because I do not file online, so any internet connection is not necessary and I do not need SW updates because I have already filed. So, I do not need to 'check for updates' or need an internet connection at all. However, the program would shut down because of no internet and if I rejected 'updates' -- and I could not even run the program to even look at my final tax forms!
