Hate to tell you this---but that return could only be saved on your own hard drive. If you did not save it when you closed out of the program, it is gone. Before you closed out you should have saved it. Returns prepared using the CD/download are not stored online. Maybe--maybe---you saved it and just need to find it.
This may be too late for you, but I hope it can help others. There is indeed a way to recover unsaved data. My solution is Mac-specific but there is surely a similar path for Windows.
I just had what seemed to be your same issue. I had a long session in Turbotax 2024, but somehow forgot to ever save my data. A sudden power outage left me in mild panic mode (mild, because all I might have lost was data entry time).
I was not able to get this clearly addressed in the archives of this forum, but managed to resolve it myself and thought it was worth adding to this thread.
I found a file Library/Autosave Information/Unsaved Turbotax Document. I moved it to an area in my Documents folder, renamed it, launched Turbotax and opened the file from the File menu. Bang! I had my fully recovered tax data. [BTW, I originally tried double-clicking, but Turbotax just seemed to open to a blank screen. I next tried opening it in Turbotax, but nothing seemed to happen.]
My search here for phrases like "recover from crash", "unsaved data" or even "autosave" came up short. I merely did a Spotlight search for ".tax2024" and found the file. I suspect a similar search would work on Windows.
Thank you!! Your guidance below saved me hours of having to reenter my data. I had been working for 2 days on my taxes and failed to save the return. We had a power outage and when I went to open Turbo Tax, there was no return. All attempts to find it using Time Machine and spotlight were not successful. But then following your guidance I found the "Unsaved TurboTax Document" under Macintosh HD/Users/my name/Library/Autosave Information
Thank you- that helped me so much! Almost had a meltdown, but the search function worked great to find the backup file.
