How can I file my state taxes without filing federal?

I already filed my federal tax return through a free tax consultant.

Then use your free service to file your state tax return, or get the forms from the state and prepare them by hand.  You cannot use TurboTax to prepare a "stand alone" state tax return.  When you use TurboTax the information flows from the federal return to the state return.

I've already paid Turbotax to do my taxes. The free consultant wasn't sure about doing two different state returns.  Now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place I guess. So much for trying.  I will never do this again.

What did you pay TT for?  If you have not prepared a federal return or a state return?  Call in for a refund on Monday--they are not there on weekends.
You can make your request with Customer Support.  Use the word ”billing” instead of the word “refund.”

your can only mail your state returns. you can use TT to prepare federal (required) then states (nonresident state first) 

when you get to filing section select federal file by mail    (if you select efile, you'll get rejection since you already filed  and this should prevent efiling states)
