How can I file for an extension?

At this late date, you may wish to file for an extension.  This will extend the time you have to file your taxes until October 16th, 2024.  

1. On the menu bar on the left that shows. 

1. Select Tax Tools 
2. On the drop-down select Tools 
3. There will be 4 green boxes 
4. Select Tax Topics 
5. Type Extension 
6. You can then start the extension process 

Also, you may have to do your state taxes: Do I need to file an extension for my personal state taxes?  

Remember, an extension gives you more time to prepare your taxes, but it doesn't extend the time to pay your taxes.  If you have an indication that you will owe taxes, you should make the payment to avoid additional interest and penalties.
