Hello,
I had my first hospital stay ever, last year. I'll use fake numbers here but it's the concept I need help with. My annual medical insurance deductible is $6500. Because of my surgery, I had to pay the entire deductible (the surgery cost way more than that).
Where do I enter this expense? I did not pay it directly TO the hospital but to the insurance company FOR the hospital stay.
The insurance company and hospital are the same "brand."
Where I think I should put it is in "Medical Facility Fees" but since I didn't pay the money directly TO the hospital, but to the insurance, should it go somewhere else?
Hope you have enough info here to help me. Thank you.

You can enter the amount in the medical expenses section as Medical Facility Fees.
If you itemize your deduction, you can deduct only the part of your medical and dental expenses that exceeds 7.5% of the amount of your adjusted gross income on Form 1040 or 1040-SR, line 11.
When you itemize your medical expenses the IRS only receives the total medical expenses paid so don’t worry about what category you choose. TurboTax gives you choices so you don’t miss anything and for your records.

Great, I have it in the right place then. Thanks very much!
