Hello, I'm going through a divorce which was not filed in 2016. Do I need to file married filing separately? We haven't lived together or shared expenses since June.

You must file either married filing jointly or married filing separately if you were still legally married on Dec. 31, 2016. You might qualify for head of household rather than married filing separately if you lived apart for the last 6 months of 2016 and claim a qualifying dependent on your tax return.
