What is your question about filing as head of household? You didn't finish your sentence. What is the reason that you want to file as head of household?
To file as head of household you must meet all of the following requirements.
1. You are unmarried or considered unmarried on the last day of the year.
2. You paid more than half the cost of keeping up a home for the year.
3. A qualifying person lived with you in the home for more than half the year (except for temporary absences, such as school). However, if the qualifying person is your dependent parent, he or she doesn't have to live with you.
See "Head of Household" in IRS Publication 501 for more details.
The program will determine if you qualify for HOH filing status so simply follow the interview screen by screen.
In the MY INFO tab the program will ask for your MARITAL status and then later if you enter a qualifying person the HOH filing status may be presented to you again if you qualify. You cannot simply choose the HOH filing status yourself.
Head of household is a special status, mostly for single parents. It doesn't mean "head of the family." To qualify for head of household, you must be unmarried or separated, pay for more than half the cost of keeping your home, and provide care in your home for a qualifying person who is usually your child dependent. If you qualify, Turbotax will make the choice for you automatically. If turbotax won't let you file as HOH, then you are not meeting the qualifications. We would need more information to suggest what to do next.
