Head of household is a special status, mostly for single parents. It doesn't mean "head of the family." To qualify for head of household, you must be unmarried or separated, pay for more than half the cost of keeping your home, and provide care in your home for a qualifying person who is usually your child dependent. If you qualify, Turbotax will make the choice for you automatically. If turbotax won't let you file as HOH, then you are not meeting the qualifications.
