This error means that the TIN does not match IRS records. Sometimes it's a typo or an extra space. Try deleting the W2-G, and if you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies and then re-enter the info manually.
Thanks for the suggestion. I am using the desktop version. I have tried variations of spaces etc and cannot make the error go away. By the way, the TIN I am using is the one I have used for several years and it always worked. I am working with the company to determine what had been their TIN. Awaiting a response. It definitely not a typo. Do you know if the TIN and the name of the company require an exact match? Also, is it possible TurboTax has an error in their IRS database?
No I did get the problem resolved. First, I am using the desktop version of TurboTax on Windows 11. Second, I have successfully electronically submitted my taxes for years my taxes with the W2-G's with the same 39-1630690 payer EIN payer address successfully. I also called the payer and they validated the address and information on the W2-G. All of a sudden I get a mismatch error saying the EIN does not match the IRS database. I am not sure if TurboTax a version of the IRS database or if TurboTax is using the actual IRS database itself. I am told by the payer that other people have used the same W2-G information on other electronic tax software. So I only can conclude that this is a TurboTax and I cannot get TurboTax to look into the problem. Frustrated. By the way, I have been using TurboTax since the pre Windows days.
A mismatch isn't always due to the EIN; often, the problem lies with the entity's name, as the IRS matches the EIN to the first four letters of the name. First, check for any typos in the entity name entry. If correcting the name doesn't work, then mailing the return is the most reliable alternative.
Does Turbotax answer the question that there is a software problem with matching TIN or EIN with W2G's. Worked last year with the same information I am using and talked the party for the W2G said that the information on the W2G is currect. Trying to get an answer if Turbotax admits this is a software problem with Turbotax. I had to mail in my return to the IRS and now I need to wait 6 - 8 weeks for a refund. This relates to Turbotax on Windows 11 desktop.
