My small business (LLC elected S-Corp) received a confirmation of filing of our quarterly 941 for Sept 30 2022 and were told in our letter that it was not necessary to file a 944.
I received a letter today stating that the IRS cannot process my 941 for Dec 31 2022 because my business requires a 944.
We definitely pay >$1,000 for taxes quarterly, so I’m confused as to why we’re being told two completely opposite things back to back.
is this perhaps an error in the IRS system? Or do we really need to file a 944?

If you have already filed form 941 each quarter, you should not file form 944.
You should write back to the IRS in reply to the request for form 944 that your annual payroll liabilities are in excess of $1,000 and that you have already filed forms 941. This should close the issue,
