Form 8453 - with Form 8949 checked

I filed my taxes successfully, but TurboTax is saying I need to file form 8453...my Form 8453 has Form 8949 checked.  What do I need to attach to my form 8453 when I send it to the IRS?

Form 8453 - with Form 8949 checked

You need to mail in the 8453 form with your 8949 form since that form was checked on your 8453 form.

Use Form 8453 to send any required paper forms or supporting documentation listed next to the check boxes on Form 8453

When and Where To File
If you are an ERO, you must mail Form 8453 to the IRS within 3 business days after receiving acknowledgement that the IRS has accepted the electronically filed tax return.

If you are filing your tax return using an online provider, mail Form 8453 to the IRS within 3 business days after you have received acknowledgement from your intermediate service provider and/or transmitter that the IRS has accepted your electronically filed tax return.

If you don’t receive an acknowledgement, you must contact your intermediate service provider and/or transmitter.

Mail Form 8453 to:
Internal Revenue Service
Attn: Shipping and Receiving, 0254
Receipt and Control Branch
Austin, TX 73344-0254

To Add to my post above:

Social security number (SSN). Be sure to enter the taxpayer's SSN in the space provided on Form 8453. If a joint tax return, list the SSNs in the same order as the first names.

Payments

Do not attach a payment to Form 8453. Instead, mail it by April 18, 2022, with Form 1040-V to the IRS at the applicable address shown on that form. If a Form 1040-V is not available, see the instructions for your tax return for other ways to get forms or you can go to IRS.gov.

Form 2848. An electronically transmitted return signed by an agent must have a power of attorney attached to Form 8453 that specifically authorizes the agent to sign the return.

@Heredetik

IRS requires details of your SELL transactions to be supplied on some Form 8949,
or on your other forms (e.g. consolidated 1099-B or spreadsheet) which have the same information and in the same manner as Form 8949.

Either way, if you choose to summarize only, you have to mail the transaction details to the IRS within three business days of IRS accepting your e-Filed tax return.(unless you have attached a PDF of the transactions details to your e-Filed return. TurboTax Online will ask for it).
Detail Reporting Exception: if you summarize Category A or Category D, Form 8949 is not needed for transactions without adjustments. No mailing is necessary.

The other reply here from @bluedeb  is misleading in that it implies you can get the forms to be mailed out of your tax return PDF file.

Other than Form 8453 ( a cover sheet), that's not the case,

The Form 8949 you get out of your tax return PDF will not have any details.

It is for that reason you are being asked to mail in the details.

@fanfare My answer is not misleading and I don't appreciate that fact that you stated it was.  I have been helping in this forum for over 21 years and do not mislead users.   I explained what they need to mail with their 8453 form, which would print in TurboTax and where to mail it.  The 8453 is mailed in with their 8949 form.

@bluedeb

Your post is off base because it implies you can get the forms to be mailed out of your tax return PDF file.

Other than Form 8453 (a cover sheet), that's not the case.

I should have just left it at that.

I apologize, if the word misleading has such a negative connotation to you.

There's really no pretty way of putting it.

Form 8453 - with Form 8949 checked

@fanfare  It is not off base, No where in my answer do I refer to a PDF file.  The program told the user to mail in form 8453 with their 8949 form.  My answer is from the IRS website.
