Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

Sadly, this message "blog" or "list" or whatever it technically is..... is NOT helping Turbo Tax Customers at all, rather it is simply adding to confusion.  I am no expert, but do tend to chase/research things when I am trying to determine WHY things aren't working... here for anyone's consideration is what I have discovered;

 - The IRS has in fact finalized the Form 7206 and it is no longer in Draft form.

 - Some people have posted that other Solution Providers (i.e. H&R Block) are able to file...

   --- Strangely, the IRS website that lists "Acceptable Forms" for tax year 2023;

   --- (https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/tax-year-2023-modernized-e-file-schema-and-business-rules-for-...)

   --- does NOT show Form 7206 in the list of "acceptable" which is interesting IF other providers CAN upload;

      No-7206-InList.png

 - Form 7206 being REQUIRED by the IRS in your submittal is ONLY if one of three different reasons (previously posted on this chain) are encountered.

   --- Read the 1040 Schedule-1 Line-17 instructions for the 2023 Form 1040 filing on the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040gi.pdf)

   --- You will see Schedule-1 instructions start on page 85, with Line-17 spanning pages 90 and 91.

   --- There is a "worksheet" in the instructions that can be used INSTEAD of the Form 7206 AND....

      ------ The 7206 requirement is listed (on page 91bottom left) as an EXCEPTION and that is where the 3 reasons the form would be required are detailed.

So as I stated earlier, I am not the expert here BUT.....  It would seem to me that TurboTax has possibly TWO errors where one MIGHT NOT be their software's problem;

 1) IF you don't meet the Exception triggers to require 7206, then TurboTax's code IS AT FAULT for forcing that form to be included in your return.

 2) IF you DO meet the IRS Exception Requiring Form 7206, even though the IRS has published a final, NOT DRAFT, version of this form... it appears POSSIBLY they haven't updated their "Schema" to actually ACCEPT the form by file.  This would NOT be a TurboTax issue and instead would be an IRS one.

Hope this information helps folks some

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

@Ed Bemis

Thank you for this post!  Yes, I agree.  But for those of us who do not need 7206 and can simply use Schedule 1, how do we delete/remove it from our program?  Have you personally been able to file yours?  A simple removal is all that is needed for me.  Please help!

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

P.S. TurboTax HAS in fact published a note;

https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/insurance-medical-benefits/form-[product...

Screen Shot 2024-02-10 at 12.46.25 PM.png

and that post is listed as "SOLVED" although I would contest it actually is PENDING instead...

 - the software error is KNOWN (by TurboTax)

 - HOWEVER, the issue persists and has yet to be resolved in production

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

Would you or someone else advise when this is resolved?

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

I was able to access the Form 7206 in my Desktop Version of TurboTax and DELETE it HOWEVER!!!.....

 - Sadly as soon as I would do that and attempt to file, the software would run the smart check and immediately put the form back in which of course blocks you from filing...  :(

All I can share is that Intuit/TurboTax appears to KNOW this problem exists and they are working on it.

TY ED..your link not working.

For Turbo Tax - please post something like Ed has regarding the issue(s), options, when solved etc

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

If you follow the link I put in that post right before your question.... you'll see at the bottom of the page a button that will register you for follow-up notifications.  I have done that and got the email saying thanks for registering for it, but have no other responses from TT as of yet :(

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

I got this email from them (TT) - yesterday....as of now...NOT READY

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

WEIRD!

I tried a "copy link" from the button on the bottom of that form to get added to the Notification list.. see if the following link will get you there;

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

I was finally able to get my return filed and it has been accpted but I am afraid that I can't tell you how I did it because it is a little bit  naughty.

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

YUP the Form itself IS ready, but sadly TT code behind it is NOT :(

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

I got the same response.   I’m beginning to wonder if they even care and trying to push the online version.  I already spent money on the disc.  I’m not going to spend more money to file online and wonder if that will even work.

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

Joe wanted to hire an additional 87,000 IRS agents to find naughty people.  If they don't come after you, please share how you were successful in e-filing.

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

I just tried again:  cleared by cache again, ran update and it is still not working.

Form 7206 cannot be efiled!

@Dmcganthat's funny!

my 2 cents would be... if you EVER had an instance to NEED to work with the IRS to resolve things (I have from Volunteer Organizations & children filings) you would appreciate additional IRS employees.  It is near impossible to resolve ANYTHING with them other than by sending repeated letters back & forth which drags problems on FOREVER!!

@mgm2395 you jumped right into the rabbit hole!!

 - the cache/cookie issue ONLY works if you are using online versions.  The real code bug currently is on desktop versions of software that TT has yet to resolve and provide in an update to fix customers who download or installed local desktop versions of the program

@ps5 yup.... this is the first year i have had SO MANY issues trying to use the software and I was suspecting the same... constant prompts to "upgrade" what I bought and now a clear "well if you were only using the online version you would be ok" answers are hard to accept.  This has been a large enough cluster *you know what* to make me already start thinking of OTHER WAYS to do this next year....

Personally, what I have witnessed from Intuit/TT for a response on this issue is rather lackluster.  Based on my career's worth of effort I COMPLETELY understand HOW/WHY this is such a cluster BUT I certainly expected better based on YEARS of previous experience with their solution.  Very sadly, it just seems to me that TT has gone the same path as many other solution providers have, too big to be able to be nimble and keep up with changes :(

(JUST my opinion is all, no facts to back it up sorry!)
