form 2210 early paid date

I paid on Feb 2, 2025, my full amount of 2025 income tax and an extra amount for underpayment of estimated taxes. In Turbotax, the date field will not let me put a date earlier than the current (today's) date. How do I put an earlier date?

You can put today's date or any date up until April 15. The date is used to calculate whether you'd need to pay additional interest on your penalty. This interest doesn't get charged until after April 15.

but I paid in full and extra before today's date (FEB 2) so the date of calculation should be that date (FEB 2) Intrest stops at the earlier date of full payment not the later date of filing. I will file on a separate date on paper because of an attachment. This is a special case so please tell someone to modify the software for the future.

Interest does not start until April 15, 2025. This is why KeshaH said you can use todays date or any date up until April 15.

I experimented with the date. When I changed my date of payment to a current date and a future date, then the underpayment penalty increased with time. I would show you screen shot to this effect but I can not attach them.

I did not look at the PDF of Form 2210 but I saw my taxes owed at the top increase.

If you made full payment before filing the return, enter the payment in the Federal section under Deductions and Credits, Additional Payments under Estimated Tax Payments. Once you have entered all of your payments in the Federal section, then revisit the Form 2210.

In TurboTax Online:

  1. Go to Deductions & Credits
  2. Select Estimated Tax Payments
  3. Click Start or Revisit next to Federal estimated taxes for 2024
  4. Scroll down to Additional Payments
  5. Enter the Date Paid and Amount Paid
