Foreign Tax Pad

I have a very small amount of Foreign Taxes Paid, found in box 7 of a 1099 DIV.  The 1099 does not tell me how much of my dividends were earned from a foreign country.  I checked that the foreign dividends are from RIC.  Now when I run a Federal Review, I am getting errors.  If I check Schedule A, it says I shouldn't.  If I don't, it wants to know how much of my dividends were earned from a foreign country as it is trying to fill out a form 1116.  I don't have that information.  How do I get out of this loop?

Foreign Tax Pad

Your Form 1099-DIV will not show you the total of foreign dividends. Your brokerage statement should have supplemental detail listing each dividend and columns for each type of distribution. One of those should show foreign tax paid.

Add the dividends from all the lines with foreign tax to get your foreign income.

Other statements might list a percentage, in which case multiply the dividend by the percentage to get foreign income.

If the amount of foreign tax paid is very small and you don't care about a deduction or credit, you can remove the Box 7 amount.
