"Foreign Currency exchange rate used to convert to US dollars" in form 8938. What should I put ?

Hi,

I need to report a foreign bank account in form 8938 and the form has a box 6b asking for the exchange rate.

I obtained the exchange rate from the Treasury Department, but I'm confused what number to put.

The box asks "Foreign Currency exchange rate used to convert to US dollars".

Suppose the foreign currency is Japanese Yen(JPY) and $1 = JPY100, should I put 100 or 0.01 in the box ?

I'm confused because TT asks me to place the number "in US dollars", though the box(6b in 8938)itself doesn't say anything about which unit to use. $1=JPY100 matches the format of what the Treasury Department provides and that's usually how an exchange rate is exressed , but following TT's instruction, it should be 0.01(JPY1 = $0.01) which is kind of unconventional.

Should I put 100 or 0.01 in that box ?

Thanks for your help.

Use 100, as that is the correct format in the case of the Japanese Yen, as you stated.
