Fireplace upgrade not eligible for tax credit

Hi, we had an upgrade of wood insert (Regency Hampton HI500 Wood Fireplace Insert) and its Higher Heating Value Efficiency (HHV) is 74, less than minimum 75 requirement IRC Section 25C. Please confirm my understanding is right that we are not eligible for the residential energy credit (biomass fuel)?

If not eligible, are we qualified for other tax benefits such as primary residence major upgrade (depreciation)?

The best way to insure that the equipment qualified for an energy credit would be to request a certification of such from the company you purchased the equipment from. They are required by law to provide you with such a certification. You cannot deduct depreciation on improvements to your residence.
