The thread is over a year old. There are no fines or penalties for a return being rejected. There are penalties for many other reasons like paying late, filing late and owing, underpaying estimated tax payments, substantial understatement of income, tax fraud, etc
You are right it is over a year old!
Really - then the fine and penalty letter I got and the IRS agents I spoke to were all lying to me .
Surely my congressional representative would have been able to straighten that out .
If it is tax day say April 15th and they reject your return and you file again on April 16th, or 18th - you are late in filing - your fault their fault does not matter you are late. Straight from the IRS .
The IRS records were not proper and that is why they rejected my return - I did not match their improper records on my return ..(I copied straight from my previous TurboTax return) so they rejected it .
My congressional rep office said well you had from January to file you should have filed earlier (he's a democrat ) .
How about being able to file all the way up to the deadline and how about the IRS records being up to date and proper , and how about simple fairness .. a Landlord reject your rent on the due date because his bank is closed and then says oh you had all this time - I will charge you a late fee.. Yeah..
