We financially supported my in-laws to visit grandchildren (we spend a lot of money) last year. Can I claim the cost as charity? Or Can I claim the cost to any kind? Thanks!

No, you can't claim the money you gave to family members as a charitable contribution. The IRS only allows deductions for contributions made to qualified charitable organizations, not to individuals.
