I got an email that my filing was rejected because of a discrepancy with a dependent social security number. What is this about?

what's the reject code because that will identify the dependent? simple answer the SSN for one of your dependents does not match what the IRS has on file. did you add any new dependents?
A Social Security number mismatch will cause a rejection---or if someone else already used that SSN on an accepted tax return your e-file will be rejected. If you are certain you entered the date of birth and the SSN correctly, and it rejects, then you cannot fix it. Your return will have to be printed, signed and mailed. The IRS will sort it out.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
