Filing joint taxes

Hello all. I've filed my taxes using Turbotax for as long as I can remember. I got married in 2023 and will be filing joint this year. My spouse previously paid a CPA to do her taxes so there is only 1 turbotax account between the two of us. As I'm able to upload my turbotax report from last year, where in Turbotax will I enter my spouse's tax information from last year? I see that it asks for the current info for both of us.

When you start your return be sure to change your filing status to married jointly and report the income of both you and your spouse.

Thank you, but that doesn’t answer my question. I uploaded my last year’s TurboTax and I know there are boxes for all of this year’s info for both of us. Where do I add her info from last year if needed?

Depends on what information you’re referring to.

Q. Where do I add her info from last year?

A.  You don't enter her info, from last year.  Basically, in a "got married in 2023" situation,  you can only transfer the data for one spouse from past year TurboTax or other tax software.

You enter all her this year info, manually. Once you enter her personal info, it may be possible to import some documents, e.g. W-2 or 1099.  TurboTax will give you prompts for imports.

Thank you. Maybe I’m just use to uploading the previous years file each year and being able to see both years while doing my taxes. It definitely makes things easier when you can compare

To begin a new joint return on TurboTax:

You will not be able to merge two previous TT account to start your new joint return.  You can transfer ONE of your 2022 returns into a new return, so choose the most complicated one.  The other spouse’s information needs to be entered manually.

When you enter your own information in My Info, you have to answer the question "Were you married?"  If you click the button for Married, then a drop down will appear that asks, "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?"  Then you choose yes to file a joint return.  You would then enter your spouse's information into My Info.  Whenever you are entering income information there should then be a spot for you and for your spouse's income information.  Income screens will have spots with each spouse’s name—be careful to enter under the correct names.

Best Wishes!
