Filing independently or as a dependent

I am 22 and live with my mom. If I file by myself, can my mother still claim me as a dependent?

If you file a return and your mother is claiming you as a dependent, you will need to make sure you indicate "someone else can claim you as a dependent" when you prepare your return. If you do this, you can file your own return and your mother can claim you as a dependent.
