Filing estate taxes for my sister in law who died in 2023. Distributions occurred in 2024, so we have a 1099R that we need to file.

After entering the information as required, we received an error when the Fed final review was done that stated that the date of death had to be in 2024...which is crazy...I can't finalized taxes until I get this cleared up.

Income in respect of a decedent is income that the  decedent would have received had the death not occurred, but was not included on their final income tax return.

The income can be included as income for the decedent's estate, if the estate receives it;  the beneficiary, if the right to income is passed directly to the beneficiary and the beneficiary receives it; or any person to whom the estate properly distributes the right to receive it.

Whoever receives the income will report it on their income tax return.

Are you attempting to use TurboTax Home & Business to report income paid to the estate?  Estates file Form 1041 which requires TurboTax Business, not TurboTax  Home & Business.
