Do I need to pay taxes if filing extension and expect to get money back?

Filing an extension gives you more time to file the tax return but any money owed to the IRS is due by the deadline. If you are expecting a refund you have no money to pay them so nothing needs to be done beyond filing an extension. It just means you will have to wait until you finally file your return to get your money back.
